Our policy on prescriptions

News

Our veterinary practice is able to supply pet owners with Prescription Only Medicines, Category V (POM-Vs).

Prescriptions

We are happy to provide you with prescriptions for these medicines, which can be filled by another veterinary surgeon or a pharmacy.

Legally, we are only able to prescribe POM-Vs for animals “under our care”. To comply with this legislation, our policy is to re-examine these pets at least every six months, though this may vary in individual circumstances.

Time

If you require a written prescription or you wish to collect a repeat prescription please allow 48 hours’ notice for our veterinary practice to issue the prescription or order in your pets medication. Please note we do not receive deliveries over the weekend, therefore if you order on a Friday we may need additional time if your order is not in stock.

Written Prescriptions

We are happy to issue a written prescription for you to obtain the medications from a different supplier.

Controlled medications will only be prescribed for 28 days at a time and must be sent in its original form.

We will issue a written prescription for three months’ supply of the medication (six months for flea and worming treatment).

A written prescription is legally valid for six months.

Please note:

A prescription may not be appropriate if your pet is an in-patient or requires immediate treatment.

Certain drugs, for instance phenobarbitone, can only be supplied for one month at a time, by law.

On request our vets will gladly inform you of the price of any veterinary medicines we supply or answer any specific questions you may have regarding prescriptions.

We are legally prohibited to refund any returned medication.

If you wish to request a repeat prescription, please do by clicking the green button on the home page on our website.
