Registered Veterinary Nurse Job Description (Full Time)

The role of a Registered Veterinary Nurse is full time, working a rota of 4 x 9 hour days and 1-in-4 full weekends.
Both shifts include 1 hour paid break. No on call or night shifts as we have a 24 hour team which includes a dedicated night team.
The hospital is located in Upminster, Essex, close to M25/A127 we have fantastic transport links to London.

Our large busy RCVS accredited veterinary hospital is equipped with excellent facilities, including digital radiography, endoscopy and ultrasonography. The hospital has both separate dog and cat wards including ISFM cat friendly kennels as well as separate isolation facilities. Our theatre is equipped with the latest multi-parameter machines and equipment to perform both routine and emergency surgery. We are a first and second opinion practice with a varied caseload. As part of the RCVS Practice Standard Scheme (PSS), we received six awards for outstanding patient and client care.

Our clinical area uses “Smartflow” which is a paperless record system. By adopting this, we are working towards reducing our carbon footprint. We are a team passionate about sustainability within the veterinary profession and additionally achieved our iiE Green Award in 2023 and 2024 also The Webinar Vet - Green Veterinary Practice of the Year 2025.

Wylie’s is an accredited Training Practice where we strive to train students in achieving their qualification of becoming a registered veterinary nurse. We have numerous Clinical Supervisors who have regular tutorials with our students and are learning new skills for our students to achieve the best training possible. Standardisation is paid for by the practice, but we are always on the lookout for more Registered Nurses to become Clinical Supervisors.

We also have a state-of-the-art Wellness Centre, located in Brentwood, Essex. Here we promote our tailor made healthcare plans and perform nurse consultations both in person and via video. The centre is also home to a wide variety of raw diets for both dogs and cats.This role would suit a nurse whom enjoys working as part of a team, where patient care is paramount and whom strives to provide an individual and tailored service to patients and clients alike. Maternity Cover - Head of Clinical Procedures

An opportunity has arisen to cover 12 months maternity leave for our Head of Clinical Procedures from December 2025 at our Upminster Branch. 

The ideal candidate is an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse who is looking for potential progression and take on additional responsibilities alongside their nursing duties.

 The role would include the smooth running of clinical procedures and related areas to ensure consistent high standards of patient care and service to owners.
To work with other Head of Areas to maintain optimum efficiency of the nursing team as a whole. To help train Student Veterinary Nurses within the area and to help the progression of their nursing progress log and off the job training hours.
 To participate in all nursing practical aspects of Imaging, Dentistry and Non-Sterile Procedures alongside our certificate holding Veterinary Surgeons and overseeing any booking, communication and liaising with external specialists where necessary.
To ensure provision of adequate stock is ordered and rotated throughout the Clinical area and all equipment within Clinical is maintained up to date, with accurate record keeping and faults are attended to and resolved as soon as possible.
Responsible for researching new equipment and keeping up to date with CPD.

RVN - Head Of Kennels

An opportunity has arisen to apply for the position of Head of Kennels at our Upminster Branch. 

The ideal candidate is an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse who is looking for potential progression and take on additional responsibilities alongside their nursing duties.
This role would involve 3 days in hospital, with 1 day release and 1 day off in lieu. 

The role would include the smooth running of the Hospital and related areas to ensure consistent high standards of patient care and service to owners.
To work alongside our Senior Training Nurse and other Head of Areas to maintain optimum efficiency of the nursing team as a whole. To participate in all nursing practical aspects of Emergency Critical Care, In-Patient and Day-Patient Care, alongside our certificate holding Veterinary Surgeons. Overseeing PSS requirements and in the event of a critical patient, night cover is to be arranged within the nursing team. 
As part of this role, additionally it would be expected to be a member of the ‘Green Group’.
To help keep up to date with sustainability and be an active member putting forward new ideas and changes towards the hospital in order to continue to reduce our carbon footprint along with attending meetings when scheduled. 
To contribute in maintaining our current PSS standards and awards.
Participating in the implementation of Practice policy protocols and Practice vision. Ensure and uphold our current Fear Friendly and Cat Friendly certificates.
The candidate will be required to attend SmartFlow training and ensure all templates and workflows are up to date, including pricing and billing on Ezyvet.

To communicate with the Senior Training Nurse during annual leave and other areas to support training and stock control. Assist other members of the Nurse Management team to ensure adequate staffing levels e.g. managing sickness within all areas.
All equipment within the Hospital is serviced up to date, with accurate record keeping and faults are attended to and resolved as soon as possible. Responsible for researching new equipment and keeping up to date with CPD.
 
Please note this role will have a probationary period and is a 12 month contract. At the end of this period, this position will be reviewed by the Management team.

RVN - Night Nurse - 7 Nights on, 14 Nights off

RVN - Senior Training Role

An opportunity has arisen to apply for the position of Senior Training Registered Nurse at our Upminster Branch. 

The ideal candidate is an experienced Nurse who is looking for potential progression and take on additional responsibilities alongside their nursing duties. This role would involve a heavy workflow in our Hospital and continue to work in other areas to support training other members of our team.

We are looking for a candidate who is approachable and will create a positive atmosphere towards training in hospital. Liaise with our Deputy Head Nurse and support current and new clinical coaches to ensure that adequate training opportunities can be provided to all students and trainees.

To encourage and support them to work towards their Nursing Progress Log and Off The Job Hours.
Additionally be comfortable in training new nurses on the main running hospital, protocols, smartlow and Ezyvet training. 
The role would include the smooth running of the Hospital and related areas to ensure consistent high standards of patient care and service to owners.
To work alongside our Head of Hospital to ensure adequate stock and rotation is ordered throughout the Hospital area.

Reception Role


"We are looking for a part time receptionist to compliment our already outstanding reception team.The successful candidate will be working an average of up to 16.5 hours per week , taking into consideration a 1:4 weekend working pattern.

The successful candidate will be experienced in all aspects of reception and customer service work: Meeting and greeting clients, email and phone queries, appropriate booking of appointments and liaising with clinical and non-clinical teams.

The working week will be at our Upminster Veterinary Hospital.Shifts are generally 6 hours long on weekdays and 9 hours long on a weekend shift.

The shifts will be mainly between 1pm  and 11 pm. Trainee Veterinary Nurse Required

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Veterinary Nurse to join our large and friendly day team. As a Trainee Veterinary Nurse, you will work closely with our experienced Veterinary Surgeons and Registered Veterinary Nurses to develop skills and gain hands-on experience in all aspects of Veterinary Nursing. This role would suit someone looking for their first role in the veterinary profession with a career goal in becoming a Registered Veterinary Nurse. It is imperative you enjoy working as part of a passionate and hard working team.

This is a full time role at our Upminster 24hr hospital, working a 4 day week and will be part of a weekend and bank holiday rota.Patient care is paramount and we strive to provide a 5-star service to patients and clients alike.

As a Trainee, you will be put through our in-house training. This consists of being equipped and prepared with all the skills you will need to thrive at nursing college. You will have an allocated mentor who will guide and develop you through your time as a Trainee before you are enrolled at College. We will only enrol those who have met our exacting standards once they are confident and capable with all skills taught to them during this time. As part of the role you will be required to ensure the cleanliness of the practice premises, ensure that patient accommodation is maintained, and assist our qualified team with handling and restraining animals within your competence skills. Unpacking raw food deliveries, replenishing working areas with consumable and keeping up to date with stock rotation.
